The war office ordered this loco, but it is not known to where it was dispatched when it was completed. It was returned to motor rail’s works at Bedford, from where it was sold as war surplus to the fylde water board, near kirkham, Lancashire.
This loco was a batch of 3 similar motor rail locos that joined the mrt fleet in 1978 from north west water authority (successors to the fylde water board) in Blackpool. The fylde water board and N.W.W.A. used locos of this type on major construction and maintenance projects, such as reservoirs; therefore, these locos tended to move between locations on a regular basis.
